Erie, CO – Colorado’s eBike Tax Credit Program, which provides a $450 discount on electric bicycles at the point of sale, will reduce to $225 on January 1, 2026, as announced by the Colorado Energy Office. Having enabled over 4,520 residents, particularly middle-aged retirees, to save $5.4 million, the program faces potential cuts due to state budget constraints. CyclErie, a prominent advocate for sustainable cycling, urges Coloradans to act now and calls on retailers to promote the credit to boost eBike adoption.
Eligible residents can claim the $450 discount on UL-certified eBikes (Class 1, 2, or 3, with motors under 750 watts) at participating retailers, limited to one discount per year. Retailers receive a $500 tax credit per sale, supporting local bike shops. Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, is required, with provisions for unhoused individuals via a nonprofit letter. With a state budget strained by a 40% spending increase against 10% population growth, the program’s $6 million allocation—equivalent to about 250 electric vehicle credits—is at risk. Details are available at CyclErie’s tax credit page.
CyclErie encourages residents to secure the $450 discount before the 2025 deadline and invites retailers to leverage the program to drive sales. “This credit supports riders, local businesses, and Colorado’s environmental goals,” said a CyclErie spokesperson. Visit the Colorado Energy Office for retailer lists or apply through CyclErie’s tax credit form to take advantage of this opportunity.
