COMPENSATION: $37,000 annually

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Development and Communications Associate supports the exemplary execution of all constituent communication and stewardship in support of our Mission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communication:
  • Coordinate the communications calendar
  • Assist in gathering the necessary materials to execute and create direct mailings, emails, brochures, posters, etc.
  • Serve as the lead staff member responsible for maintaining internal communications
  • Support all social media efforts
  • Maintain online community events calendars and volunteer postings
  • Field and process community donation requests
  • Assist in the writing and preparation of grant proposals and report drafts. Also, collect required documents and information as assigned
Development Office:
  • Assist the Director of Development with the execution of a wide range of campaigns including but not limited to portfolio management support, coordination of mailings, solicitations, and printing materials
  • Serve as lead staff member responsible for database data entry and maintenance
  • Reconcile donation data with accounting on a regularly scheduled basis
  • Process donations and prepare acknowledgement letters as well as run queries
  • Set up and maintain paper and electronic filing systems for donor records, correspondence, and other materials
  • Maintain the annual grant calendar
  • Update and add donor records in Altru, including biographical information, cultivation activities, and appeals
  • Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate, foundation, and individual donors. Collect and enter the data in Altru
Events:
  • Work with the development team to send event invitations, plan staff events, maintain guest RSVP lists, gather and prepare materials/supplies, and perform post-event follow-up/evaluations
Stakeholder Relations:
  • Provide phone, email, and in-person support to donor inquiries including accepting contributions, fulfilling requests for more information, and answering general questions
  • Assist the Director of Development in stewardship efforts
  • Provide phone, email, and in-person support to volunteer inquiries including coordination of background check materials
  • Maintain the volunteer orientation schedule
  • Maintain the volunteer hours and schedule in the database
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent follow through, work ethic, and attention to detail
  • Ability to write clearly, appropriately, and accurately to various audiences. Editing and proofreading skills are required
  • Strong time management skills.  Can efficiently execute on multiple priorities/tasks/ideas
  • Comfortable using computers; proficient in Microsoft Office software, Internet search tools, and email. Experience with Blackbaud and/or Altru software, or similar donor database, preferred
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Regularly required to stand, sit, walk; talk, and hear
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, grasp, or feel
  • Regularly required to use close vision
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 20 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets
  • Subject primarily to indoor conditions
  • Occasionally subject to a loud and busy environment
